The BFG - Original Soundtrack

The BFG – Original Soundtrack

Composed by Keith Hopwood & Malcolm Rowe

The score to Cosgrove Hall's beloved 1989 animated adaptation of Roald Dahl's The BFG — first broadcast on ITV on Christmas Day 1989, starring David Jason as the Big Friendly Giant alongside Amanda Root as Sophie. Three years and 750,000 animation cels in the making, the film was personally approved and applauded by Roald Dahl himself after a private screening, and it remains one of Cosgrove Hall's most cherished productions.

The music was composed by Keith Hopwood and Malcolm Rowe — the same pairing behind Cosgrove Hall's Wind in the Willows scores — with orchestration by Brian Ibbetson and David Cullen, and Hopwood also producing. The album spans 29 tracks plus 3 bonus tracks, moving from sweeping instrumental pieces like "The Vortex & Arrival," "The Owl's Flight," and "Journey Through Giantland" to vocal numbers including David Jason himself performing "Whizzpopping!" and Sharon Campbell on "Sometimes Secretly," with a bonus full-length version of Sophie's theme, "Mirror Mirror," among the extras.

A lovingly assembled release for anyone who grew up with the film, or who collects British animation scores from the Cosgrove Hall era.
