Pingu

Pingu was already a beloved show across the globe long before I had anything to do with it. HIT Entertainment had spent years carefully acquiring the rights to the original series, and their new production was determined to stay faithful to its distinctive look and sound. When the chance came up, I pitched a fresh take on the show's famously short theme song — and was thrilled when it won me the job.

What I was chasing was something circusy, tinged with an Eastern European flavour: unusual harmonic turns, plenty of calliope flutes, a sense of playful strangeness that matched the character. The voices of Pingu and his family were something else entirely. The films were animated to the storyboard first, then handed to the voiceover artists along with a full script — who would then translate every line into "Pinguese" on the spot. It was, without question, one of the funniest and most enjoyable shows I've ever had the pleasure of scoring.
