CountrywomenMusic composed, performed and produced by Keith Hopwood

Made for the John Peel Productions series for BBC Two, Countrywomen put the soundtrack to six portraits of working life in the British countryside.

Keith Hopwood's score follows each one in turn: the gamekeeper's Keeper's Dawn, rising through feeding rounds, the hunt and the autumn shoot; The Dragon Master, tracked from storytelling and canoe trips to poacher patrols along the river; The Laird of Auchlyne, marking out a Highland year by grouse, stag and Highland cattle; Lady of the Isles, riding out storms and hauling seaweed on Iona; The Shepherd & the Showgirl, working sheep and young dogs through rain and blizzard; and, closing the set, The High Flyer — the falconer pictured on the cover with her golden eagle, scored from first flight through to grouse hawking and conservation.
